Our Painted Lady Butterflies

This is our Butterfly Pavilion. At the top you can see the chrysalis hanging down. We put them in their new home after watching the larva turn to a catepillar and then form a pupa.

After about 10 days, the butterflies began to emerge. There was one that stayed inside the chrysalis a day longer.

When the butterflies came out, they hung and dried their wings for a while.

It was extremely exciting when the butterflies began to fly around the cage.

Everyone like to watch them.

We had to put something sweet inside the cage for the butterflies to eat.

We took the cage outside after a few days and let all five butterflies go. We wished them a good life.

Funny thing is, three of them landed back in the bowl we had used in the pavilion. They were happy to stay and sit on the flowers that were easy to find. Later we saw them all fly away. We enjoyed watching the life cycle of the Painted Lady Butterflies take place in our classroom.

Happy April birthday!
