Building Our Gingerbread Village/ Christmas 2010

Here is a picture of our completed Gingerbread Village. Click on the picture to enlarge the scene.
We began our Gingerbread Villiage on December 6th. The first step was to cover the wooden frame with graham crackers. Next we decorated the roof. Everyone worked together to make sure both sided of the roof matched in design.

We had lots and lots of candy to work with, so there was no limit to what could be created. It took 5 days to complete the big house.

Every student was given an empty milk carton, a cup of frosting, seven graham crackers and a plate of their own choice of candies.

We learned about construction and gravity as sometimes the roof would slide down. It took some hard work to make everything stick together.

The best part of the experience is getting to be your own designer. No two houses looked the same.

It was lots of fun, but also a good learning experience.

It took concentration.

The boys in our class liked working together. They were a good construction crew.

The village came together when each student placed their own house on the table. Then they got to create a yard and a path to their house using more candy. The final touches included adding sprinkles to the big and small houses. Adding popcorn, fruit loops, marshmellows to cover the table. Lots more frosting was dripped on the houses to make it look like snow. A sprinkling of coconut completed the scene and added even more good smells. We invited the school to come and view our Gingerbread Village. It was fun to show our beautiful and creative project.

Sweet girls around the seet house.
This looks good enough to eat.
Trying for a nibble.
The whole class poses in front of the village.

This is my 20th Gingerbread Village. Each and every year the houses look different. This year we had gingerbread people and a gingerbread train. It was another masterpiece.

Christmas Party 2010

Creating a new friend. During our party each student got to "build a Husky."
Working together
Ready, Get Set, Stuff!
Everyone hugging their new "Husky Buddy".
Have your ever heard of a Marshmellow Launcher? These girls can tell you all about it.
Our Mrashmellow Launchers made from pvc pipe.
We went out to the playground and shot marshmellows. We also measured how far they flew.
Some recored over 30 feet. Others had to do some fast remodeling.
We shared this science/math project with Mrs. Bagwell's Third Grade Class. We would like to thank them for all their help. We also appreciate the workers at Reeve's Hardware in Azle who cut all the pipes for both classes. Mr. Smith donated funds for our project.
