We began our Gingerbread Villiage on December 6th. The first step was to cover the wooden frame with graham crackers. Next we decorated the roof. Everyone worked together to make sure both sided of the roof matched in design.
We had lots and lots of candy to work with, so there was no limit to what could be created. It took 5 days to complete the big house.
Every student was given an empty milk carton, a cup of frosting, seven graham crackers and a plate of their own choice of candies.
We learned about construction and gravity as sometimes the roof would slide down. It took some hard work to make everything stick together.
The best part of the experience is getting to be your own designer. No two houses looked the same.
It was lots of fun, but also a good learning experience.
It took concentration.
The boys in our class liked working together. They were a good construction crew.
The village came together when each student placed their own house on the table. Then they got to create a yard and a path to their house using more candy. The final touches included adding sprinkles to the big and small houses. Adding popcorn, fruit loops, marshmellows to cover the table. Lots more frosting was dripped on the houses to make it look like snow. A sprinkling of coconut completed the scene and added even more good smells. We invited the school to come and view our Gingerbread Village. It was fun to show our beautiful and creative project.
