The School Year Begins 2011-2012

Our first week of school was busy and fun. We met our class pets, our worms, in the Worm Farm.

Each day we've added some delicious food for them to eat, such as apples, grapes, and carrots.

We also added some shredded newspaper, because they love to eat that.

Our worms are getting fat and healthy. The soil is getting ready for the garden this fall.

This week in math we learned about Place Value using bundles of ten. Now we know about the ones and the tens place.

We got to write our spelling words on our desk! Everyone did well on their first spelling test. The words will get harder, so study at home. Don't forget about SpellingCity on the school site.

We took lots of AR test the first week of school. We had fun going to the library and then using the computers to take AR tests.

These two students are doing their Target Math using new expo markers. Target Math teaches us many math concepts. We practice everything from clocks to multiplication.

This week we made an All About Me book. We are learning so much about each other. Who likes to draw flowers and who likes to draw sharks. We've been getting to know each other and it has been lots of fun.

More All About Me books. We've talked about our families, our neighborhoods, our school and our favorite things.

Here is our Star Chart. Everyday we have lots of helpers. Everyone has a job.
With twenty-five students the teacher needs lots of helpers.

This year going to the library requires a library pass. The students have used lots of patience and kindness as they've waited for their turn to us the library pass.

Great picture of our terrific Second Grade students with their self portraits.

Some more terrific students with their pictures.

We use these pictures for graping and other activities in the classroom.

Each day the banker gives every student one dollar. We are learning about the value of a quarter, so we use our money to buy a snack for one quarter. We are saving our money to buy prizes later on.

Busy students during the first week of school. We also went over all the classroom rules. We are learning to take responsibility for our choices.

We have such a good classroom of students this year. I'm excited just how well our first week went. Looking forward to many more days together. Thanks to our parents for getting us to school, sending our supplies and our snacks. School is great!
